Holy Basil also commonly known as tulsi in India . Basil has been known for its medicinal values and healing properties for thousand years in Aayurveda.
There are several varieties of basil of like sweet basil, lemon basil, lime basil, Holy basil and African Blue basil. Basil is a native to Asia, Iran and India.
Basil contains a high amount of antioxidants. Basil has medicinal values as antiviral, anti-cancer, and antimicrobial properties. Basil can be used to treat asthma, stress ,malaria and diabetes.
Useful home remedies using basil .
Basil is good for kidney, when mixture equal amount of honey and juice of leaves of basil is taken regularly for few months it helps to get away with stones in kidney .
Basil is a good antioxidant and helps to reduce glucose level in blood and thus it also helps in controlling diabetes . One teaspoon of juice of basil leaves when taken regularly keeps diabetes under control .
Basil leaves improve memory power.
Decoction made by boiling basil leaves with water can be used to gargle to reduce throat pain and cough .
Decoction made by boiling basil leaves with cardamom powder can be taken to reduce high body temperature.
Basil leaves keeps heart healthy as when consumed regularly it reduces the cholesterol content in the arteries .
Mix a tea spoon of honey and ginger juice in a cup of decoction made with basil leaves and take for getting relief from cold, influenza, asthma and bronchitis.
Basil too contains anti venom properties as decoction made with the mixture of leaves, roots and flowers of basil acts as anti venom for a snake bite.
Basil leaves contains ‘Eugenol’ which acts as good pain killer when juice or paste of basil leaves are applied to the wound .It has healing effects too.
Massage with basil oil on the affected limbs to reduce the severity of paralysis.

Tulsi , is also categorized into varieties such as Vishnu tulsi , Krishna Tulsi etc.. the medicinal value of these herbs especially with their combination cannot be understated. best results are when taken in as leaf and chewed in.. also nowadays socialized as herbal infusion.
